Two passages from Scripture that have always stirred my soul during the Advent/Christmas season are ". . .Be it done unto me according to your Word." (Luke 1:38) and " . . .He shall be called Emmanuel, God is with us." (Isaiah 6:14)

Christmas Prayer

When Jesus came to us as man,
He scattered the darkness of this world,
and filled this holy season with his glory.
May the God of infinite goodness
scatter the darkness of sin
and brighten our hearts with holiness.

God sent his angels to shepherds
To herald the great joy of our Savior’s birth.
May he fill us with joy
and make us heralds of his gospel.

When the Word became man,
earth was joined to heaven.
May he give us his peace, comfort and joy.

Amen

Teresa of Avila
Teresa is a Carmelite and Doctor of the Church who gives us a great deal of insight into prayer. Prayer Reflection:

Christ has no body now on earth but yours,
no hand but yours,
no feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion
is to look out to the world.
Yours are the feet with which he is to go about doing good.
Yours are the hands with which he is to bless us now.

Angelus
The Angelus is prayed as part of the Carmelite tradition who sees Mary as patron. Angelus:

The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. HAIL MARY…

Behold the handmaid of the Lord,
Be it done to me according to your Word. HAIL MARY…

And the Word was made flesh.
And dwelt among us. HAIL MARY…

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God
That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray. Pour forth; we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, your Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by his passion and cross be brought to the glory of his resurrection, through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.

For Relatives and Friends:

Eternal God,
by the power of your Spirit
you have filled the hearts of your faithful people
with gifts of love for one another.
Hear the prayers we offer for our relatives and friends.
Give them health of mind and body.
Give them peace, comfort and joy.
Give them your constant encouragement
and guide them throughout their lives.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
