2011 Lent-Spring Program Schedule

Embracing the Discipline of Lent – An overnight experience of prayer and discernment.
March 4-5, 2011 Friday,7 p.m. to Saturday, 3 p.m.

For many of us, Lent has become a time of “giving up” something as an observance of sacrifice. Perhaps we need to broaden our view of preparing for Lent. To embrace the discipline of Lent it is important that we “listen” carefully to God’s summons to us to turn away from sin and embrace the Gospel. Take time this weekend before Lent to listen to your particular invitation for this Lent.

This opportunity will include presentations, private and communal prayer and silence. An opportunity for private spiritual consultation will be available.

Donation suggested: $40 includes room, meals and materials. Pre-registration required by March 2, 2011.

Sunday Sabbath Series
Both sessions 1:30 - 5:00 p.m.

March 13, 2011 The Passion of Christ
Using Scripture and examples from daily life, Fr. Ron Rohlheiser examines the passion of Christ less in terms of His physical sufferings but with new focus on Jesus the lover. Jesus embraces moral and emotional suffering without resentment and bitterness. In so doing, Jesus offers us a model of openness to transformation.

April 3, 2011 The Cross of Christ
The cross is the ultimate symbol of love for the world. It is the single most revolutionary moral event in the history of humanity. The cross beckons us beyond our own agendas to a life without resentment.

Suggested donation is $10 per session, which includes materials.

Crafting and Contemplation – First in a Series of Overnight Reflections:
Friday, Mar. 18, 7 p.m. to Sat. Mar. 19 at 3 p.m.

Although many people find crafts to be a relaxing hobby, we often miss the opportunity to find crafting to be a contemplative experience. One definition for contemplation is the art of careful observation or study. Engaging oneself in meaningful crafts can also be a means for developing an attitude for contemplation as prayer.

During our first reflection on crafts we will study the art of “quilling.” Quilling was practiced since the Middle Ages by religious women who created beautiful floral designs twisting strips of paper. Today the craft still exists and is making a quiet come back.

This opportunity will provide an introduction to the art of quilling while at the same time offer opportunities to use one’s creative talents as a stepping stone for prayer. What better way to imitate God, the creator of all, than to use our creativity as a form of worship.

Donation suggested: $40 includes room, meals; $10.00 for tools and materials sufficient for two projects.
Pre-registration required by March 12 in order to obtain necessary supplies.

The Psalms of Lent
Saturday, April 9, 2011 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
From the cry for mercy of Psalm 51 to the great proclamation of trust in Psalm 23, the Responsorial Psalms used by the Church during the season of Lent have a great deal to tell us about repentance, conversion of heart and our relationship with our God. Spend this day prayerfully exploring the often overlooked Scriptures of Lent: the Responsorial Psalms.

Donation suggested: $25, includes lunch and materials.
Pre-registration required by April 6.
