Current 2009 Fall Schedule September 12, 2009 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. With the coming of Fall and another school year, we often find ourselves saying: “back to the old grind--again.” Regardless of the type of work one is involved in, one can always find a way to glean spiritual riches from the very act of work. Spend this day reflecting on your own attitudes and beliefs regarding the work God has entrusted to you. Learn how to maximize its blessings and face its challenges with spiritual supports. Presenter: Sr. Marilyn Welch, CCW September 15, 22, 29, 2009 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. God’s creative action in the world continues through our own use of creative skills to beautify our world. Spend time learning a craft while using it as an entry into prayer and reflection. Donation: $10 per session September 19, 2009 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. John Henry Cardinal Newman once said: “I pray best at the tip of a pen.” Many great spiritual masters would agree, such as St. Augustine, Thomas Merton, Oscar Romero, even St. Therese. This day of prayer will include instruction in the art of journaling as well as several guided journaling exercises. Personal confidentiality guaranteed. Presenter: Sr. Marjorie McGuire, CCW Overnight Silent Retreats September 25-26, 2009 November 20-21, 2009 Each of us has the need to periodically set aside a more extended time for prayer. God is always offering us the opportunity to “come aside and rest awhile” in His loving embrace. Each retreat includes presentations on the topic as starting points to times of silent, private prayer. Opportunity for individual Spiritual Guidance is provided. October 11, 2009 Consider the invitation to set aside Sunday afternoon for enrichment, prayer and reflection. Ronald Rolheiser is a world known speaker who engages his audience with simplicity, humor and a profound understanding of the spiritual life andits challenges. These afternoons will include a filmed presentation along with reflection & prayer. Facilitator: Sr. Marilyn Welch, CCW October 4, 2009 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Reflecting on the popular film for strengthening marriage, one can learn much about strengthening other relationships as well. How is God calling you and your spouse, friend, sibling, co-worker to interact with each other? This afternoon of reflection will include time to view the movie, Fireproof, personal reflection time, personal prayer and conversation. Facilitator: Sr. Marilyn Welch, CCW One of the great gifts of our Catholic heritage is that we do not have to struggle through life alone. We have the wonderful example of the great multitude of saints who have gone before us and continue to intercede for us with God. In this second session of “Walking with the Saints,” Sr. Cindy Burns, CCW will explore the lives of some famous and some maybe not so famous examples of Christian living. Do you have a favorite saint….or is there a saint you would like to know more about? If so, contact Sr. Cindy at 814-886-3972 before Oct. 1 to have your saint included in the day. Donation: $35
Praying the Mass November 1, 2009 November 8, 2009 These days of input and reflection will deepen your understanding of the Mass and the mystery of Christ we celebrate; it will help connect your daily living with the Paschal Mystery of Christ’s dying and rising celebrated in the Eucharistic Liturgy; it will help you to prepare to celebrate this sacred meal, this sacrifice of Christ given for us. Presenter: Sr. Karen Gruseck, CCW November 11, 2009 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. The gift of self given to others during times of illness, aging, and disability is a valuable sign of God’s love and care for each one of us. That gift of self needs to be nourished through times of prayer and rest. Spend this day immersing yourself in God’s tender care for you as his messenger of love. Presenter: Sr. Marilyn Welch, CCW
Family Reflection Days Each of these afternoons of reflection will use a film presentation as a springboard for reflection, conversation, and a prayerful activity geared to strengthening the relationships within one’s family, friends, or groups. The programs will be open to adults, couples, and school age children accompanied by a parent or other caring adult. November 22, 2009 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. December 6, 2009 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Remembering that Christ is the focus of Christmas with an invitation to walk with Mary throughout the days of Advent preparation for the coming feast of Christmas. Donation: $15 per session for adults
Tuesdays, September 1, October 6, November 3, December 1, 2009 6:30—7:30 PM Come and spend an hour of communal and silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament reserved in our Incarnation Center Chapel. Tuesdays September 8, October 13, November 10, December 8, 2009 6:30—8:00 PM Join us as we continue sponsoring a group here at Incarnation Center. Shawls may be made for personal needs or to be given away to needy persons in nursing homes, those recovering from injuries sustained in the service of our country, those awaiting the birth of a child, and those who grieve the loss of a loved one or any other person needing to know God’s embrace in a special way. Each session begins with prayer, as well as time for sharing and praying for those who will receive our shawls. Bring yarn of your choosing and J, H or I crochet hooks.
